The Ogallala Police Department needs your help a rash of recent thefts from vehicles.
In the month of August Officer took 12 theft reports from unlocked vehicle. Items stolen include purses, lap tops, ipods and other items of value. Total value of items stolen was well over $1,000. The Ogallala Police department would like to remind citizens to lock their vehicles and not leave valuable in plain sight.

During the weekend of August 1st unknown subject stole a large amount of copper wire from a NPPD substation located in the 500 mile of Road East 120. This was the second theft from this substation. Copper wire stolen was valued at over $500.

During the night of May 19th unknown subjects gained entry to the Middle School. These Vandals broke a window and damaged a screen. Once inside the vandals discharged a fire extinguisher then poured honey and powder on the floors. A lot of lot of time and effort was wasted by the janitor to clean up the building before school started. The cost to repair the damages and cleaning materials was over $200.00.

In the month of February 2008 vandals struck several local businesses. Unknown persons spray painted several new tags on the high school, west 5th school, viaduct, river bridge, storage units and Pamida just to name a few. The cost to clean up this damage is well over $1,000. The most common words used was THUG, CRIPS, KONVICT, BOOB, FSU and 187. Several subjects had previously been charged in graffiti cases in the Ogallala area, but these appear to be new tags. If anyone knows who uses this name or has any information about graffiti, please contact crime stoppers.

The Keith County Sheriff’s Officer needs your help in solving a recent Criminal Mischief to several mail boxes in the county.
On Saturday, February 2nd 2008 at about 1130 unknown suspect shot three mail boxes with shot guns. This occurred in the area of Road East 20 and Road O, south of Paxton near the county line. Deputies did locate tire tracks and need your help locating the persons responsible for this crime. Cost to replace the mail boxes was over $150.
In the month of October 2007 vandals struck Schmidt Motors two times. On October 10 unknown persons broke the windows out of a Ford Expedition, a Dodge Dynasty, a Dodge Ram and a Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Suspects also stole the stereo and a tire from the jeep. Then on Oct. 31st an officer received another report for a window being broken out of a Ford Explorer. On November 21st deputies were called to 1000 mile road west 40 reference damage to a vehicle. A 1996 Dodge Stratus had broke down and was left overnight by the owner. When he returned he found that unknown suspects had intentionally damaged the windshield and body panels. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,500.00.

On the weekend of November 10th an unknown person gained entry by force to a building belonging to Farmers COOP in Brule. Once inside the building nothing was taken but the suspect caused damage to the building estimated at over $1,000.00.

Sometime during the night of Friday October 26th an unknown suspect broke into several vehicles parked in the area of Plaza Inn and Paradise Motel. Once inside the vehicles the suspects stole a Dell laptop computer, several car stereos, wallets and other items. The items stolen totaled over $1,000.00.

On Thursday September 27th an unknown suspect entered Radio Shack in Ogallala and walked out with a black Compaq laptop computer. Laptop was on display and the cost of the computer over $600.00.
The Keith County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in solving a recent act of vandalism at a local golf course.
Sometime during the night of Sunday September 23rd an unknown suspect drove onto the 16th green at bayside golf course. The suspect vehicle backed onto the green and accelerated tearing the grass up causing $2,500.00 damage to the course. Because of the cost of repairs to the golf course this crime is a felony.
During the weekend of August 25th unknown suspect went to B & J Salvage in Brule and stole 6 rims with tires. The suspect took the time to remove them from the cars they were on. All the tires and rims were from Chevy’s. Business estimated the loss of the tires and rims at $750.00.
